Heaven

HEAVEN

It seems like
everyday I’m standing
in another line.
A line to get ration stamps.
A line to turn in fats.
A line to board the bus.
This line, though,
is like standing in front
of the pearly gates.
Once through the door,
I’ll hold out my pennies
and buy my own little
piece of heaven—
a packet of chewing gum!
